When I came to America I had one suitcase and 20 post office boxes* of "stuff". 8 years later we bought a house and had to hire removalists to move all my acquired crap! LOL.

* The largest Australia Post boxes are not very big so I only brought stuff I considered truly "precious" to me. Between Australia Post and US Postal Service they all arrived in perfect condition with the exception of one crystal vase which had a tiny chip in it (probably due to poor packing on my part).
When I move there I will probably do the same maybe two suitcaes a carry on and some post as well.

I am looking forward to that move.
Glad the moving is done!
When I came here the post office had "economy air" and shipping by sea - now they only have air mail and that makes the postage very high. If it had only been air when I came I would've been cutting back even more on what I brought.

Something I did: Took things out that I thought I wanted to bring with me and put them on the dining room table. Every day I would walk past that table at least half a dozen times and I would look at all of that stuff and think is it really x cost to bring that item? And so I wheedled things out based on emotional value against cost of getting them here.
That is a smart idea, I am bad with the things I hold on to.

I must admit the cost does scare me a bit, but I have a while to save.
Go to the post office (or online) and get the schedule of rates per gm. It is good to have it to plan by because if you go over by one little smidgeon you get charged in say a 500gm range - so it is better to fill to that next 500gm. I might not be making sense.... when my mother sends me things she takes some cadbury single serve chocs with her and when they weigh the box she tips in a number of the little chocs !
